The schedule for the first two weeks of the 12th edition of the cash-rich T20 league, IPL was announced on February 19th. Defending champions under the captaincy of MS Dhoni will take on Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 23rd in Chennai. A statement released by IPL mentions that the schedule is still subject to the announcement of the Lok Sabha 2019 election schedule.
As per released schedule, as many as 17 games will be played from 23rd March to 5th April across the eight home venues of the respective IPL franchise. 24th, 30th, & 31st will be double-headed days.
In the statement released on Tuesday, the IPL said, “This is still subject to the announcement of Lok Sabha 2019 election dates. Once the election dates are released we will address any issues with the first two weeks and also prepare a schedule for the remainder of the season working with the local authorities around the polling dates”.
The two franchises, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play games each in the leased schedule while remaining six franchises will play four games each. The Delhi Capitals will play three homes games while Royal Challengers Bangalore will play three away games in the first two weeks. The other six franchises will play two home and two away games each.
